The Fourth of July

We really got things swinging with another camping adventure at the end of June. We took a chance on a place called Sand Lake National Recreation Area, 6 miles north of Pacific City.

The good news was the beach was clean, private, and just the right temperature for sand play and ocean taunting. We got sun without sunburn, and camping in the bus is always fun. This campground serves the ATV folks who cruise the dunes, dude! We were the only camper small enough to fit into a compact parking spot. Everyone else was hauling huge RVs that also could carry their ATVs.

The bad news was our neighbors were noisy and whined when they got citations for not making their kids wear helmets. They didn't follow the quiet time rules either, but we dealt with it.

The GREAT news was that on July 3rd, we went into Pacific City to meet with my Mom and Dad! They rented a house, and we immediately used the showers and the washing machine. The house was quiet, happy, and clean. Becky and Mike met us there too, and we celebrated all the July birthdays in the family. We watched fireworks on the beach, played in the sand some more, spent time inside on a rainy day, and had a wonderful time.

Camping with Jeanne and Norm - June 21

Peter's step dad Norm owns property just north of HWY26 near Banks, Oregon. We had never been out to visit it, but he's been doing a lot of work lately, clearing out areas for camping and constructing a sturdy bridge over the creek. So we met Jeanne and Norm out on the property and camped overnight. We helped build a fire circle, roasted marshmallows, and spent time with Peter's family.

Pete's sister Ruth and her family came, as well as Norm's daughter. So we had a good crowd for exploring the creek and discovering salamanders. The girls all had one complaint- this trip wasn't long enough! So we need to plan a longer time to really explore that creek.

Anniversary Week

The last week of May Peter and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary by taking our kids out of school and going camping! We started out at Beverly Beach near Newport, and had a blast. We did all kinds of amazing stuff:

• played in the sand
• visited the aquarium
• went shopping for beads
• ate great food
• slept in a Yurt

We had a moment of panic when on the first morning, Peter was all ready to make pancakes before discovering we were out of propane! So we started the adventure by going out to breakfast and finding a location to refill our tank. Then we were cooking with gas!
